Governor State of Osun Mr Gboyega Oyetola has described sport as an activity that fosters unity and engenders cohesion among people
Governor Oyetola while receiving the award winning athletes from Osun said he felt excited that the young sportmen and women have done the state proud.
He observed that moments in sports bring people of different tribes and races together.
He therefore charged young ones to steer clear of crimes and seek occupation in sports.
The Governor who was flanked by his deputy Mr Benedict Alabi alongside members of the state steering committee also tasked the management of Osun United Football Club and Osun Babes Football Club to do all within their capacity to pull the teams out of their current positions.
While encouraging them to bring discipline, excellence and trust into running the affairs of the clubs, the Governor charged them to scout for young sport talents in schools by collaborating with the schools heads.
Earlier in his address of Welcome, Supervisor for sports Comrade Biyi Odunlade had referred to the Governor as sport loving right from his days as the chief of staff and is ready now as well to support sports.
In his remarks, President of Osun United Football Club Mr Ademola Adesina had appreciated the efforts of Governor Gboyega Oyetola in road rehabilitation, hospital and school re invigoration and full payment of salaries to workers.
He promised that the new teams will build on the legacies left by his predecessor Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi.
Highpoint of the event was presentation of plaques and other gift items to the award winning athletes from the state Governor Gboyega Oyetola.
