Speakership: Group Wants Gbajabiamila Out Over Alleged Fraud

More storm seem to be gathering over the speakership ambition of Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila (APC, Lagos) as a media organisation has written to the national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomhole, seeking his disqualification from the race.

The petition is coming barely a week after a Nigerian taxpayer, Philip Undie, sued Gbajabiamila, praying a federal high court in Abuja to declare the aspirant unfit to contest the speakership of the 9th House of Representatives having allegedly been convicted of fraud by the Supreme Court of the State of Georgia, United States of America.

Undie, in the suite, was also praying the court to restrain Gbajabiamila from parading himself as a member of the House in the light of the conviction.

In the latest development, the media outfit known as Corruption Reporter Communications Limited, in a letter dated May 23, 2019 and addressed to Oshiomhole, signed by its Editor, Basah Mohammed, outlined the fraud allegedly committed by Gbajabiamila in the United States of America, saying that such an individual should not be allowed to occupy a sensitive position such as the Speakership of the House of Representatives.

The letter was titled, “Speakership of the 9th Assembly House of Representatives: Nigeria Faces Another Reputational Crisis – One Femi Gbaja or Honourable Femi?”

The letter, which was sighted by our correspondent, was also copied to virtually all security agencies in Nigeria for immediate investigation of the aspirant.

Those copied included the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Abubakar Malami; the Acting Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu; the Chairman, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, (ICPC), as well as the Chairman, Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).

Others were the Director General, National Intelligence Agency, (NIA); Inspector General of Police, (IGP); the Director General, Department of State Security (DSS); the Head of Nigeria Interpol National Centre Bureau (NCB); the President, Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, and the Clerk, National Assembly, Abuja.

Copies of the letter and the evidences marked annextures 1 to 6 have also been received and officially acknowledged by the respective agencies.
