OSUN MINISTERIAL SLOT: TIME TO BE FAITHFUL AS PROF. OLUSOLA ADEYEYE IS UNFIT TO CLINCH THE SLOT ~ BY DAPO OLORUNFEMI
The graceful judgement of the supreme court has finally put an end to the distractions that befall our great party; APC in the last few months, thereby giving us a new breathe of life in terms of total control of and responsibilities for public governance in the State of Osun.
The All Progressive Congress; APC in the State of Osun is a progressive political party with its core value as good governance, infrastructure development and life more abundant for the people. As we witnessed in the time of Chief Adebisi Akande, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, so shall we witness in greater & better folds in the current administration of Alh. Gboyega Oyetola.
However, for Osun public governance to be wholely successful, there must be great, genuine and committed synergies among all the relevant stakeholders; the ruling party as an institution, the State Executive Council, the State House of Assembly, the federal lawmakers from the State and indeed the Honourable Minister representing the State at the federal cabinet. At the moment, the State and the Federal cabinet are at the formative stage, while the state cabinet is at the prerogative of Mr. Governor, the federal executive council members is at the discretion of Mr. President since he must appoint at least one representative from each States of the federation according to the law of the land.
Whoever is going to be the ministerial representative of the State of Osun must be someone that has the positive character and the ability to harness together all strength of the State among all the Stakeholders mentioned above for its growth & development. He or she must enjoy good relationship with other relevant stakeholders and possess the needed political will to represent Osun well at the federal cabinet and not someone that will be playing to the gallery for the sake of seeking to be in the good book of some power that be and for selfish gains.
In the intense lobby for the Osun Ministerial slot, it has been reported in many media that the immediate past governor of the State of Osun; Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the immediate past occupant of the office, Prof. Isaac Adewole, Senator Iyiola Omisore and Senator Prof. Olusola Adeyeye are major contenders of the position for the only slot available to the State of Osun.
Among all the mentioned contenders, it is obviously clear that Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola is the best man for the job and Senator Prof. Olusola Adeyeye; the immediate past senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District is the worst among them and highly unfit to clinch the slot. While Aregbesola has been tested & trusted in terms of his love for the State, ability to harness together all strength of the state and political will to represent Osun well plus the good relationship he enjoys will other relevant stakeholders for the growth and development of the state and the people therein, the same thing cannot be said of Senator Prof. Olusola Adeyeye who has been tested several time and failed all times.
It has been written that no one can run away from his own shadow as all deeds will become point of reference at one point or the other either for good or bad.
I will not dwell on the failed administration of Senator Prof. Olusola Adeyeye in terms of his woeful performances during his reign as local government Chairman at the Ifedayo local government but I will make few references to his day at the Green and Red Chambers in a representative capacities for the good people of Ila Federal Constituency and Osun Central Senatorial District at different times, since the Ministerial slot he is lobbying for now is to represent Osun; our dear State.
During his sojourn at the Green Chamber, Senator Prof. Olusola Adeyeye granted an interview with the reputable “The News Magazine” with the caption “We Run Corruptocracy in Nigeria”. In the mentioned interview, he narrated how they were lavishing and waste spending the hard earned Nigerian resources at the National Assembly on Stationeries, frivolous allowances and travels. He said in the interview that If Nigerians knew how much they spend and the huge amount that go to their pockets, they will come and stone them all to death. During the period, he used to dress to the chamber in knickers, shot shirts and hustler hats in the name of activism but our Professor was a pretender of the century as he claimed at the concluding part of his interview that after a lot of threats to his life and that of his father among others, he had to join them, when an adage in the Yoruba nation says “Eni ti a ko ni ika, to gba, ti inu e lo fe se” meaning whoever we lured in to bad deeds and agreed, he or she has bad characters in him or her already to display before. Whereas in other clime especially in the United States where he claimed to have been trained, if such things happen, the honourable person will resign to really and genuinely protest the evil deeds of his colleagues then at the Green Chamber and if he truly, was not part of the corruptocracy he claimed the country runs then.
During his days at the House of Representatives, despite the fact that he was there to represent the people, he did not recourse back to them for any reason either for constituency reasons or feedback agenda as he had no constituency office anywhere and there is no way you can access him despite the fact that he collected huge money for that purpose through the corruptocracy they run then according to him.
And when he became the Senator of the Federal Republic representing the good people of Osun Central Senatorial District, his two terms were worse in terms of representation of the people. He never merited the tickets of the party to contest for any position if it comes to party loyalty and goodwill but he always rode on the shoulders and the good deeds of Chief Bisi Akande and that of Prof. Wole Soyinka, two distinguished Nigerians and opinion leaders who built names for themselves through good character, superb legacies and smooth relationship with the people all of which Senator Prof. Olusola Adeyeye lacks, hence he has to run to them all the times to secure party tickets for any contest.
Senator Prof. Olusola Adeyeye is not anyway loyal to the party and not responsible to the people because at every elections, he must seek the help of the party leaders who will reluctantly persuade the party members to work with him at the poll, not because he has performed or that he will perform, no, but because he was flying our party's flag at the poll and we must work to ensure victory for our party at the poll.
Senator Prof. Olusola Adeyeye rode on the back of Chief Bisi Akande and Prof. Wole Soyinka to secure party tickets and rode on the goodwill of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola to win elections and for that obvious reason of lacking the ability and enough good character and relationship among the party faithfuls, the electorates and his constituents to win at the poll, he was denied the Senatorial ticket for the third term which he desired so dearly and pursued so vigorously but giving to a much younger personality; Ajibola Bashiru who has the capabilities and goodwill of the people to win at the poll and the young man did not disappoint our great party and the people.
Senator Prof. Olusola Adeyeye promised us as constituents, that he believes so much in education and he intended to build a very big library where we could go do academics research and have access to various books that will equip us for societal challenges, then we supported him after a strong appeal from one of our Senatorial leaders, the leader said we should hold him responsible and count on him whenever we need anything from him as constituents but as leopard will not change its skin, Senator Prof. Olusola Adeyeye never acquired any land for the library till today and he never replied several text messages and emails sent to him by that leader who vouched for him before the poll and he never engaged for once in any meaningful and constructive empowerment to better the lot of the people like Senator Oluremi Tinubu of Lagos, Senator Buhari of Oyo State and Indeed Babajide Omoworare among others who were his colleagues then at the Red Chamber.
During the 8th National Assembly, he hypocritically disobey the party order by supporting Senator Bukola Saraki as the Senate President then because of his selfish interest of getting juicy arrangement as a Principal officer and he eventually turned himself to an errand boy for Senator Saraki for the purpose of juicy travelings abroad and its huge estacodes in dollars against the wish of our great party.
Senator Prof. Olusola Adeyeye out of huge selfish tendency lobbied out of the norms and in rewards for his loyalty to Saraki against the party got the juicy position of the Director General, National Food & Drugs Administration Control, NAFDAC for his wife as if there are no other qualified Nigerians for the position, nepotism is the term.
Senator Prof. Olusola Adeyeye is full of eye service and indeed he is better described as a corporate political thug.
His corporate political thuggery was displayed a number of times in my presence and all were borne out of eye service for selfish gains. At the State of Osun Government, Osogbo on a faithful day, Governor Aregbesola was inspecting a portion at the verandah of the banquet hall where President Buhari was to observe his prayers during a day visit the following day to commission the prestigious state of the art Osogbo High School newly constructed by Aregbesola's administration then.
Senator Prof. Olusola Adeyeye was seeing following Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola around behaving like a motor park boy, banging his legs on ground put on a pair of black socks on a pair of palm sandal saluting Aregbesola saying “Twuale oga mi” like political thugs.
Another corporate political thuggery was displayed by Senator Prof. Olusola Adeyeye during his encounter with the INEC Chairman, a very humane & calm Prof. Attahiru Jega at the Leisure Spring Hotel in the build-up to former Governor Aregbesola's second term election bid in 2014. Prof. Jega was in Osogbo to meet with relevant stakeholders in the electioneering processes then for the success of the poll, it got to a point during the meeting when Senator Prof. Olusola Adeyeye was shouting, behaving like a motor park boy on a very calm Professor Colleague on the minor issue of folding of ballot papers after vote casting. Those actions were ridiculous & very unbecoming of a supposed distinguished Senator of the federal republic of Nigeria.
As we await the Ministerial list of President Muhammad Buhari, it will be very disappointing, a bad omen, a wasted slot and a huge minus for the progress, growth and development of our great party; APC, our dear state of Osun and the people living therein, if the name of Senator Prof. Olusola Adeyeye appears on the slot of Osun.
Senator Prof. Olusola Adeyeye lacks the character, good relationship and abilities to join other relevant stakeholders to bring about unity of purpose to our ongoing system of development in the state of Osun. He lacks good precedence as he has been tested several time and failed all times in terms of representation of the people hence he must not be allowed to clinch the state's only slot at the federal executive council.
