BREAKING: #RevolutionNow: Court Refuses Hearing Of Sowore’s Application

The Abuja division of the Federal High Court on Wednesday declined to hear an application filed by the convener of #RevolutionNow protests, Omoyele Sowore, challenging the order detaining him for 45 days with effect from August 8.

The DSS had brought an ex pate application seeking the detention of Sowore for a period of 90 days pending the conclusion of its investigation.
But Justice Taiwo Taiwo, a vacation judge, on August 8, granted a motion ex parte by the Department of State Security Service (DSS), and ordered that Sowore should be detained for 45 days.
Not satisfied with Justice Taiwo’s order, Sowore’s counsel, Chief Femi Falana approached the court with an application seeking to quash the order.
Falana claimed that the court was misled by the DSS into giving the order.
After making the order for Sowore to be detained for 45 days, Justice Taiwo adjourned to September 11.
However, on Wednesday, Falana’s effort to move his application was scuttled as the next sitting vacation judge, Justice Nkeonye Maha refused to entertain the motion.
Justice Maha vehemently denied every attempt by Falana to make oral application for bail.
The judge said she cannot hear the application because it would amount to sitting on appeal against the order of Justice Taiwo.
Detail soon.
