Cybercriminals Will Continue To Make Cyberspace Unsafe ~ Says NCC

The Nigeria Communication Commission, NCC has told the general public the need to keep their day to day activities offline in order to protect themselves from prying eyes of cyber criminals and hackers which is a trending cybercrime in Nigeria. 


Speaking, the Director Consumer Affairs Bureau, NCC, Mrs Felicia Onwuegbuchulam said the
cybercriminals will continue To make cyberspace unsafe if, consumers remain unaware about cybercrime trends and make efforts to ensure save use of connected devices in the country.

She made the awareness at NCC 109th edition of consumer outreach programme themed: "Mitigate Effects Of Cybercrimes: The Role Of Telecom Consumers" in Osogbo, Osun state capital on Thursday.

Onwuegbuchulam who was represented by Mr Jerry Ugwu stressed that creating awareness menace of cybercrime would protect people users against fraudster.

She also warned cyber users to avoid exposing their day to day activities online, "To keep consumers well informed on the risks associated with being online enlightening themselves on safety measures."

According to her, "The commission aimed to engage people by educating, informing them with right information they need to know their right as telecom consumers and to be able to safeguard such rights when violated by the service providers.

"As commission embarks on various initiative to increase access to the internet for Nigerians for positive engagement, we are nonetheless conscious of dishonest individuals who are bent on using the Internet for illegal activities. The hackers and cybercriminal deploy sophisticated systems to intrude into your connected devices as telecoms consumers to perpetrate their exploitation schemes.

In his remarks, the deputy director, Nigeria Communication Commission, Alhaji Ismail Adedigba charged all service providers to make themselves available to their solving all complains received from them.

Adedigba implored service providers to make use of the suggestion of participants in reducing the effects of cybercrime on telecom consumers in the broadband era.

However, Miss Khadijah Adebayo lamented over the act of some youths who capitalize on unemployment to perpetrate cybercrime, say many people have lost the most valuable properties to the hand of fraudsters.

Adebayo called on the federal government and state governments to provide job opportunities for graduates in order to reduce cyber crime which she described as illegal practice in the country.
