AKOL Advocates More Focus On Girl-Child Education


..as the Speaker commissions and handover Itayemi Hall to Esa-Oke community 

A Cabinet member-designate in the State of Osun and Candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC in the last general elections, Dr. Olasiji Olamiju - AKOL have advocated more focus on girl-child education following the potential inherent in them for national development.

The Pharmaceutical doctor made the assertion during the commissioning and handing over of Itayemi Assembly hall donated to Esa-Oke grammar school and launching of N10 million naira development fund.

The multipurpose hall which was built by US-based educationist and author, Madam Phebean Ogundipe-Itayemi in Esa-Oke community has over 2000 seats capacity.

Olamiju said, "the girl-child in Nigeria needs more focus by the government, parents, development partners, donors, religious organizations and traditional rulers and society because they are going to be the engine of growth and development of our national life.”

He explained further that, government and society are yet to really tap into the enormous potential of the girl-child, which he said has been slowed down over many decades due to religious, cultural, social and political barriers.

“I want to mention that the girl-child has enormous potential that are rare and could make meaningful impact on national life; starting from the home, their own families, place of work and both national and international development.

Olamiju recalled that he used a textbook authored by the nonagenarian, 'Practical English' in the secondary school. He however appreciated her for giving back to her community.

He however, appreciated the Speaker, Rt. Honourable Timothy Owoeye for honouring the Invitation despite his tight schedule.

The Speaker while commissioning the hall appreciates the donor and call on all well-meaning people in the state to emulate the nonagenarian and not wait till any government provide the needed facilities.

The event was attended by many dignitaries, both home and abroad which includes, His Royal Majesty, Oba Adeyemi Adediran, Owa Omiran Of Esa-Oke, the former permanent Secretary, Lagos State Civil Service Commission, Mr Ayo Adediran, former commissioner for Lands and physical planning in Osun, Architect Muyiwa Ige, former Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture, Hon. Festus Agunbiade, former vice chairman, Obokun local government, Hon Ekundayo, President Council of Elders, Esa-Oke, Chief Olaniyi Faseyi, Engineer Omojadegbe, Chief Dosu Fatokun, the Asiwaju of Esa-Oke, Hon. Dapo Ayodele, High Chief Ogboni Of Esa-Oke kingdom and many others.
