Driver dies, 13 passengers rescued in Ogun crash

A yet-to-be-identified commercial bus driver died after he lost control of his Toyota vehicle with number plate AKD 101 XS on the Sagamu/Ijebu-Ode Expressway in Ogun State on Thursday.

The driver, whose corpse had been deposited in the morgue, was reportedly conveying passengers from the East to Lagos when the crash occurred on the slope around the Babcock University, in Ilisan.

It was learnt that the bus rammed a Fiat van with number plate LAM 528 LG from behind, with some of the passengers getting injured in the process.

The injured victims were taken to the Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ilisan, for urgent attention.

The Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi, who confirmed the accident, said men of the Ikenne Police Division had impounded the bus, adding that the van had yet to be evacuated from the scene.

The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission, Ogun State, Clement Oladele, while commiserating with the victims, said the accident was caused by excessive speed and wrongful overtaking.

He advised motorists to drive cautiously and maintain approved speed limits and avoid dangerous overtaking to avoid crashes.
