Governor Gboyega Oyetola of the State of Osun has appealed to the people of the state to support his government by paying their taxes and other statutory levies.
The Governor who made this appeal while delivering his address as the chief host at the 28th annual township day celebration of his country home, Iragbiji, yesterday, said one of the tangible ways by which citizens of the state could obviously support his government was through voluntary and regular payment of taxes into the covers of government.
He emphasized the primacy of tax revenue to the state without which, according to him, government would be overtly incapacitated.
He therefore, urged people of the state to pay their statutory dues, with a promise of transparency and equity, adding that he was ready to sign a pact on domiciliary usage of revenue in same community from where it was generated.
The Governor said: "If a tax paying community insists that whatever tax revenue generated therefrom should be used for developmental projects in the same community, I am ready to sign an agreement with the community.
"This is to assure you that we do not have any interior motive other than to ensure development of our dear state.
"So, we urge you to support government and help government in our bid to help the citizenry", the Governor said.
Speaking on the incident of the 28th Iragbiji Day celebration, Mr. Oyetola lauded the efforts of the Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Abdur-Rasheed Ayotunde Olabomi Odundun IV, describing him as a visionary monarch, who always wished well and envisioned his town to be a haven of a place.
Nevertheless, the Governor used the occasion to reiterate his administration's commitment to provision of social amenities and good services that would transform the state and lives of its citizenry.
He also echoed his government's resolve to formulating and implementing life-changing and people-friendly policies.
He stressed that he would ensure high-level performance, adherence to, and equitable delivery of the state's development plan, which included economic development of the state, infrastructure development of Osun, human capital development of the people of the state, and security as well as sustainable environment.
Similarly, the Osun helmsman urged residents of the state to avail themselves of the provision of health facilities in all the 332 healthcare centres across the state, access to which, according to him, was free of charge for the people.
