Recall Federal Government of Nigeria approved Establishment of New Federal College of Education across the Six Geopolitical zones of which Osun is the benefitting state in the Southwest. 

Two members house of Representatives from Osun Central senatorial district ( Hon Rasheed and Hon Fakeye) from Ifelodun and Ila federal constituencies respectively presented a bill for Establishment of Federal College of Education in favour of the Senatorial District. Promoting the bill, Hon Rasheed Afolabi notified the house that in the entire Southwest, only Lagos has College of Education (Technical) and also out of the three Senatorial Districts in Osun, only Central was left out without any Federal Institutions.

According to him, Osun West has federal Polytechnic, Ede; while Osun East has Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. Hon Afolabi analysed the benefits of establishing the institution in Ikirun, considering its populations, location, wider market's coverage and other social amenities that put Ikirun at the vantage. Although for Hon Fakeye, he believes that state owned college of education was sighted in Ila is an advantage on its part, Ikirun is far more qualified to host the federal institution, as it is reasonable enough to site such citadel of learning in an environment that is very conducive and marketable for students while the people of Ikirun are hospitable and humane to a fault. At this juncture, I call on well meaning sons and daughters of Ikirun to rise up for development of our community. We should not fold our arms and allow this golden opportunity to pass by. A word is enough for wise.
