LG Election: Test Your Popularity, OSHA Speaker Tells Opposition Parties
By Joseph Akanbi
The Speaker of the State of Osun House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye, has charged opposition parties in Osun State to participate in the upcoming Local Government election.
Owoeye gave the charge at plenary while screening nominee members of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC).
The Speaker who thanked Governor Gboyega Oyetola for painstakingly selecting the nominees in good faith, asked them to repose the faith by conducting LG elections that will not be subject to litigation.
Owoeye said democracy is about inclusive participation and urged the opposition parties in the State to participate in the election.
The lawmaker said “Nigeria is heading towards electronic voting which will make it impossible for voter intimidation and suppression. You can rule longer if you do the wishes of the people, if you refuse, they vote you out.”
“Gradually, a day will come where it will be impossible for a ruling party to influence LG elections in Nigeria and that is why we politicians must do the will of the people.”
Owoeye however charged politicians to allow OSIEC to do their job, noting that with little or no interference the electoral umpire will perform creditably well.
