2022: PDP disagrees with Deji Adeleke on Ademola's candidacy

Some leaders of the People's Democratic Party in Ede Federal constituency, Osun State have kicked against the rejection of the adoption of Senator Ademola Adeleke as the consensus candidate of the party for 2022 gubernatorial race by

the senator's brother, Dr Deji Adeleke.

It would be recalled, at a Thanksgiving programme in Ede, Elder Peter Babalola had a week after the Supreme Court verdict on 2018 governorship tussle in the state moved that Senator be adopted as the party candidate ahead of 2022 governorship race.

But, Dr Deji Adeleke rejected the adoption, saying that his brother senator Ademola Nurudeen Adeleke had no intention to contest the 2018 governorship election in the first place, but was invited and prevailed upon by the same party leadership and party elders to contest the governorship election, which he and their family accepted after receiving assurances and promises that were never kept.

Declaring that Senator Adeleke should be given a break and take his well-deserved rest, Deji Adeleke warned that the PDP will only be better off and well prepared for the next general election in the state, if internal democracy is encouraged and enforced.

Yesterday, however, at a meeting which was chaired by the State Deputy Chairman, Elder Sunday Atidade who doubled as the  leader of the federal constituency, Senator Ademola Adeleke was again adopted as sole governorship candidate of the party by his caucus who insisted that it's Ademola Adeleke or nobody else.

The PDP caucus bragged that its forum did everything in support of the choice of Osun East to produce Hon Soji Adagunodo⁩ as the party chair and in turn deserved solidarity and alignment with its consensus choice of Senator Ademola Adeleke as PDP Candidate in 2022.

Although the PDP chairman declined comment on the argument for and against the adoption, majority of the party leaders, especially those outside Ede federal constituency had chided those behind the new adoption and vowed to fight any attempts to foist the senator on the party to a standstill.

"PDP is bigger than all of us and all of them in that caucus. Those who think what is best for the party at this critical period is endorsement are rogues and professional politicians who have no means of survival beyond politics. Their move is ill-timed and self-serving with intent to milk the Adelekes the more. How can you insist on bringing the party to its knees because of a family and individual? Does a single tree makes a forest? If we won't deceive ourselves, it is barbaric and very idiotic for anybody to claim that it is either Ademola or nobody else."

"Fine, Supreme court has absorbed him of forgery cases but does that change the fact that he doesn't possess any certificate to his name but only parading school testimonials with a single F9 and nothing else? Is the embarrassment that alone has brought to our party not enough?"

"The rogues and their educated illustrates spreading the nonsense called adoption at this moment should know that the needless Supreme Court's pronouncement on a shameful ordinary secondary school certificate controversy is not enough to adjudge him as a candidate with academic and intellectual capacity."

"Moreover, Osun voted for PDP in the last election to protest against misdeeds of the ruling party and this cannot be taken as a vote of confidence on the personality of Ademola," one of the party leaders who doesn't want to be mentioned expressed his reservations about the adoption and advised the Adeleke family to keep eyes on those behind them adoptions. He told the family to steer clear of another promise which, according to him, would never be kept.
