Famodun sues for unity, peace between councillors, chairmen ~ Nationnewslead

Worried by needless reported incidents of crisis brewing up in some local government council areas between some councillors and council chairmen, the Osun  Chairman of the All Progressives Congress(APC), Prince Gboyega Famodun, has tasked them to embrace unity in the overall interest of the people and the party.

Famodun in a statement signed by his Media Consultant, Kola Olabisi, in Osogbo, the Osun State capital today said he was not comfortable with the news oozing out from some local government councils that some councillors are at war with their chairmen over flimsy, mundane and personal issues.

The state party chairman stated that it was obvious with the development that some of the councillors and chairmen are bereft of their symbiotic roles in the parliamentary system of government being run in the local government council administration in the state.

He observed that it was a pity that some of the combatant political functionaries in the local government councils have forgotten that they are products of a political party which leadership should be in the know of their grievances whether counterfeit or genuine before they could take to washing their dirty linen in the public.

Famodun also observed that part of what has been engendering the avoidable crisis in some of the local government councils is that it is either some council chairmen are not aware of their limitation of authority in a parliamentary system of government which erroneously make them to be operating like  executive chairmen or they are deliberately orchestrating crisis for reasons which could not be in the interest of the people.

He explained that there is need to tutor the political functionaries at the grassroots that the main reason for their election is to bring governance closer to the people.

Famodun enjoined the political grassroots combatants to shed a toga of unhealthy rivalry among themselves, adding that the expectation from the elected local government staff by the governed is enormous.

In his words: "If what some of our councillors and chairmen could think of is to turn their offices to theatres of war, when will they have time to meet and discuss on how to compliment the various efforts of Governor Gboyega Oyetola in his genuine efforts to continue developmental projects in the state.

"The elected council staff should not see their attitude in the office as a means of diminishing the image of the party as political functionaries who are closer to the grassroots.

"There is orderliness in our party and any posture against this may be considered an anti-party which is most likely to attract statutory stipulated sanctions at the state level of our party", he explained.
