Osun First Lady Takes Advocacy Campaign to Owena-Ijesha, Urges Residents to Eschew Cholera-driven attitudes

Empowers over one Hundred Traders

Wife of Governor Gboyega Oyetola of the State of Osun, Mrs. Kafayat Oyetola was today at Owena Ijesha in Oriade Local Government area of the state where she held another round of her advocacy campaign against female genital mutilation and open defecation.

The State of Osun First Lady, who is the President of Ilerioluwa Development Initiative, IDI, a non-governmental organization, was at Owena for a number of reasons.

The first, according to Mrs. Oyetola, was to express her gratitude to the residents of the area for their support and massive votes for all the candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC, especially her husband, Governor Oyetola, during the last general elections in the state.

Speaking further, State of Osun First Lady said the second reason for her visit to Owena-Ijesha was to expose people in the area to the scourge of open defecation and the commonly practised female genital mutilation.

Encouraging nursing mothers via educative orientation on exclusive breastfeeding for at least six months post-delivery period was the third reason for the visit of the IDI President.

In her further address on market women empowerment, which was the fourth reason for her visit, the wife of the Governor promised to empower one hundred petty traders in the area during her present visit, pledging that she would be back for a massive empowerment.

On female genital mutilation, Mrs. Oyetola urged couples and parents to desist from a social behaviour which she referred to as barbaric, adding that it brought unending sufferings to girl children.

She also admonished people living in Owena-Ijesha and its environs to eschew the ignoble attitude of open defecation, which she said brewed cholera and other related diseases.

In turns, the royal host, Olowena of Owena, Oba Bisiriyu Oladeyinbo Gbadewolu I, Iyaloja of Owena-Ijesha, Mrs. Aminatu Mofolorunso, who received the First Lady and her team on their arrival, APC Women Leader in the state, Mrs. Fakokunde, and Iyaloja General, Mrs. Hawawu Asindemade, who were on the First Lady's entourage, eulogised Mrs. Oyetola for her humanitarian initiative and support, not only for her husband, but also for the people of the State of Osun.
