Oyetola Applauded For The Protection Of Women And Children's Rights
The Governor State of Osun, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola has been applauded for upholding and protecting the rights of women and children in the State.
Commissioner Women and Children Affairs, Barr. Olubukola Olaboopo stated this during a sensitization lecture in commemoration of the year 2019 International Human Rights Day organized by the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs held at the Moremi Hall, Abeere.
Olaboopo explained that protecting the rights of everyone is not only a matter of utmost importance but an obligation that calls for understanding and cooperation of all and sundry irrespective of region, race, social or family background and cultural beliefs.
She emphasized that the aim of the program was to enlighten women on their rights, empower them to be able to identify abuse and violations and arm them with what the way forward is, in such instances.
She expressed concern that most women are ignorant of their rights especially economic, social , religious, social and political rights which they are entitled to as citizens.
The Honourable Commissioner pledged that the present administration in the State of Osun will continue to ensure that women, children and the vulnerable in the state are given maximum security to ensure freedom from any form of violence that can deny the fundamental human rights of this groups.
In his lecture, Barr. Kayode Titiloye, the Director of Commercial& Legal Drafting, Ministry of Justice, Osun State, who was one of the guest lecturers at the program advised women who are being abused whether sexually or in any other form to stop dying in silence but report such cases to the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs informing them that the Government through the Ministry of Justice will take over such cases at no charges.
He explained that so many women have lost their lives as a result of fear, enduring the marriage because of their children and shame.
While delivering her lecture, Barr. I.T Alarape AbdulRahman emphasized that female genital mutilation is a serious offence urging the citizens of the state of Osun to stop the deadly act , stressing that any one found guilty, will be prosecuted .
Present at the program were the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Femi Akande, the Iyaloja general, Alhaja Asindemade, Apc State Women leader Alhaja Kudirat Fakokunde, wives of local Government Chairmen, SAs on Women Affairs across the State, representatives of female political groups, NGOs from various local government areas in the State, directors and staff members in the ministry, women across the state.
