Osun Govt Arraigns Monarch, Son And One Other Involved In Child Rape
In furtherance of the State Government’s commitment to protect the rights of children in the State, the Government of the State of Osun has arraigned a monarch, his son and one other who were involved in the defilement of a 13year old.
Oba David Ogungbemi the Aketewi of Iketewi and his son Idowu, were docked on three count charges in line with Sections 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002, as well as sections 31 and 32 of the Child’s Right Act, Cap 050, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
The Honourable Commissioner for Women, Children and Social Affairs stated that the duo have been remanded at the State Correctional Center, Ilesha pending the perfection of their bail conditions. They were each granted bail in the sum of N1 million naira with sureties who have landed properties in the State capital.
In same vein, the accused monarch has been suspended from acting or parading himself as the Aketewi of Iketewi pending the determination of the criminal charges against him.
Barr. Olaboopo while lamenting the spate of sexual assaults and crimes against children in the State mentioned that the State Government is atop of the most recent Ila Orangun case and the culprit will soon be brought to justice.
She urged parents and guardians to put in place all mechanisms to ensure that their children do not fall victim of paedophiles mentioning that it is time parents engage in sex education with their children.
She reiterated that victims of sexual assaults take a while to snap out of the trauma of such abuses.
