The Success Of LAUTECH Is The Success Of Osun Health Sector - OSHA Speaker
The Speaker, State of Osun House Assembly, Rt Hon Timothy Owoeye has called on the Management of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Osogbo to work round the clock to bring back the lost glory of the hospital. He gave the charge while receiving the hospital's management led by the Acting Chief Medical Director, Professor Peter Olaitan. Rt Hon Timothy Owoeye said the current COVID-19 Pandemic has exposed the weakness of the country's health sector. Now that foreign medical tourism can hardly be undertaken, management of LAUTECT Teaching Hospital should use this as an opportunity to develop its facilities and make it more attracting for health care services of all.
Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye assured of the House of Assembly's commitment towards ensuring that LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Osogbo's glory is restored by giving adequate attention to the needs of the hospital. This is to enhance its clinical services, training and research. He advised the management to explore benefits of engaging in Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangements in order to sustain the hospital. Rt. Hon Owoeye in his words said, “ have a scale of preference on what is required to bring LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Osogbo to a level where it will not depend solely, financially, on the government.". The Speaker emphasized that the success of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Osogbo is the success of the health sector of the state.
In another development, the Chairman House Committee on Health, Hon. Abidoye Adenike charged Prof Olaitan to do all within his power to ensure that the IGR of the institution is improved. She said the hospital is dear to the heart of the government, advising that the House Committee should be properly carried along in its quest. Speaking in the same vein, another member of the committee, Hon. Olatunde said, "government is ready to ensure the repositioning of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, an enabling environment for such should start from within the system”.
The Acting Chief Medical Director, Professor Peter Olaitan who came on board recently said the courtsey visits to the leadership of the State House of Assembly were to apprise them with the realities in the institution and unfold his vision. He bemoaned the exodus of some staff to greener pastures, a situation that has led to a dearth of core medical personnel. He however assured the House Committee on Health that efforts are ongoing to ensure that facilities and more equipment are put in place in order to move the hospital forward.
As part of package to revamp the institution, Professor Olaitan said that the management will explore Private Public Partnership (PPP) as a great avenue for getting the hospital equipped with state of the art facilities. The Acting Chief Medical Director disclosed that staff training both local and foreign, especially for Resident Doctors will be given priority while in-house training for a better work attitude for all categories of staff will also be pursued vigorously. He noted that over the years, the hospital has trainned over one hundred specialists with only few remaining within the system hence the need to replace those who have left. He therefore solicited for the support of the House Committee on Health and members of the House of Assembly at large to move LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Osogbo to the apex.
